In Summer 2022 I decided to look for a new experience within the design industry to expand my knowledge further. I got offered an opportunity for a 3 month internship in Lisbon, Portugal. So in September I relocated to a new city as an Interior Design Assistant in an Interior Architecture and Design practice specialising in residential renovation and furnishing projects.
I worked on a number of projects in my 3 months abroad to get a good scope of the range of work done by the studio. My first project was a renovation and furnishing project in an apartment in the coastal town of Cascais. I aided in the full apartment survey and then I drafted up the existing plans for the architect. My next project was an upscale apartment in Lisbon city looking for a full furnishing package. I was assisting in the creating of the collages and mood boards for 3 options being drafted for the client to choose from. I also worked on furniture and fittings schedules and home decor sourcing on this project. The next project was an apartment in Barcelona which was another furnishing project but also a kitchen redesign which I have specialised in before so I took on the kitchen redesign role.
Alongside the work I completed, I also got to visit sites of existing projects which were underway and some older projects which were closer to completion. I also got to visit an Interiors Home Show while I was in Lisbon to source new brands to work with for the studio.
This was an amazing experience to live and work abroad, and being able to take away so much knowledge from a studio which excelled in detail and thorough interior design and architecture processes was a huge benefit.
